Update: Faculty Election Ballots Mailing Soon

August 25, 2021

Dear Pitt Faculty Members,

On August 27, 2021, the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board (PLRB) will mail ballots to eligible voters to participate in the election to determine if Pitt’s faculty will be represented by the United Steelworkers. The list of eligible voters who should be receiving ballots is attached to the election order.

If you are on the eligible voters list, please look for your ballot to arrive soon. Once you receive it, please follow the instructions provided to complete your ballot, and mail the ballot back to the PLRB in time for it to arrive on or before Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Please note that ballots received by the PLRB after that date will not be counted, regardless of when they are postmarked. No postage is necessary when using the return envelope.

If you do not receive a ballot by September 13, 2021, but believe you should be eligible to vote, you should contact the PLRB to request a ballot by emailing katowens@pa.gov.

This is a consequential choice. While the University takes no position on what the outcome should be, we encourage voters to consider the matter seriously and to participate. The University Times recently published an article and opinion pieces reflecting different faculty perspectives on the issue; visit the News page to learn more about these viewpoints.

Additionally, some faculty members have asked us questions about eligibility to vote, home visits, and the election process. You can find answers to these questions and others on the Your Questions Answered and the Election Process webpages.

You may also submit additional questions online or reach out to me at faculty@pitt.edu.

Best,
Lu-in Wang
Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
